John Polga-Hecimovich is an assistant professor of political science at the United States Naval Academy. His research is broadly focused on the effects of political institutions on democratic stability, policymaking, and governance, with a focus on Latin America. He has published peer-reviewed research in The Journal of Politics, Democratization, Political Science Quarterly, and Latin American Politics and Society, among others. He has also been quoted about the Venezuelan military in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, National Public Radio, and Venezuela’s El Nacional.
