In September of 2013, Caricom, or Caribbean Community that consists of 15 nations including St. Vincent, The Grenadines, Barbados, Suriname, and Grenada, announced they would be attempting to sue 11 European nations for slavery reparations.
Against claims that hundreds of thousands of mostly poor and indigenous women were sterilized without their consent, the Peruvian government has decided to clear former president Alberto Fujimori of related charges. The Fujimori government always claimed that the operations performed were voluntary on behalf of its participants.
In 2008, Peru approached the International Court of Justice to rule on an unset maritime border with Chile. 38,000 square kilometers of ocean were under question, among this area some of the best fishing territories in the Pacific Ocean. Past agreements established that the border ran parallel to the equator. Peru, however, wanted it to be extended southwest to run perpendicular to the land border.
